BMW Announces S1000RR Supersport

BMW Motorrad unveiled to the press a very special machine that could be the company's key to becoming synonymous with racing dominance.

The machine, designated S1000RR, marks an entirely new model series for BMW, according to the company spokeman.

BMW will build just 1000 road-legal units of the RR before the January, 2010, World Superbike homologation deadline. Pricing has yet to be announced.

The company's goal for its first year of World Superbike racing is modest: get in the top 10. The following year it hopes to get some Bavarian boots on the podium, and in the long term there are dreams of winning the championship.

Why compete in World Superbike? BMW has saturated the markets it concentrates on—touring and heavy enduro models.

Kawasaki Introduces Motorcycle Night Vision

According to patent documents rooted out by Gizmag, Kawasaki is developing a rack of novel technologies for the next generation of its high-tech flagship motorcycle, the 1400 GTR. These include not only an infrared camera system, but also a helmet-mounted, heads-up display for projecting those pictures, and a collision avoidance system, which will detect and highlight potential dangers.

Destined to become a milestone machine, the Fury captures the pure, undiluted chopper essence, places it within easy reach of nearly every rider and then backs it up with the same quality and reliability built into every Honda. It's a radical concept in a unique package, a combination never before offered- until today.

Lead Ban Law challenged, may be Reversed.

The Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 banned the sale of youth off-highway vehicles as of Feb. 10, 2009. Under the law, manufacturers, importers, distributors and retailers are barred from selling any product intended for children 12 and under that contains more than 600 parts per million of lead in any accessible part.. The Motorcycle Industry Counsel submitted petitions seeking a stay, saying the parts (such as found in brake components and battery terminals )involved are highly unlikely to be contacted by children:".More
