Michelin Motorcycle Tire Recall
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Michelin Tire Stamps Michelin Recalls Pilot Power and Pilot Power 2CT Tires On June 15th, Michelin North America announced a general recall of their popular Pilot Power and Pilot Power 2CT ("two compound tire") front tires.
While no accidents or injuries have been reported, these tires may experience uneven tread wear and deformation at higher than average highway speeds, resulting in tread separation and partial tread loss.
The recall is based on a manufacturing defect and only includes the 120/70 sized front tires with a "Made in France" designation on the sidewall and either a "DOT 6UCW 980T" or "DOT 6UCW 979T" imprint (see illustration).
If you think you may be eligible for a free replacement tire, contact Michelin Consumer Relations at 1-866-324-2835 or contact us to make the necessary arrangements. There is no cost to the consumer for this service and Michelin is happy to answer any questions you may have
50th Anniversary Laguna Seca/ Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
USGP More that 143,000 super bike race fans were in attendance on July 22nd for the third annual Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix, making it the largest spectator event to date in Monterey County. This year also marks the 50th anniversary season at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca as Australian rider Casey Stoner (Ducati) led the pack from start to finish with fellow Australian racer Chris Vermuelen (Suzuki) taking second place and Italian Marco Melandri (Honda) finishing in third place for his second consecutive year.

American favorite and defending World Champion Nicky Hayden (Honda) suffered a serious setback when he and fellow American, John Hopkins, collided hard on the first-lap run into turn two. Hayden stayed upright but his bike was so badly damaged that he was eventually forced to pull in and retire. Hopkins hit the asphalt, but was able to remount and eventually finish in fifteenth position.

Probably the most impressive ride of the day was by Marco Melandri who, after a serious crash and ankle injury he sustained during Saturday's qualifying race, managed to climb his way back through the pack from a tenth-place starting position to finish third. Overall it was a great day for both local and international MotoGP enthusiasts and fans are already looking forward to next year's race, officially scheduled for July 18-20, 2008

New Motorcycle Land Speed Record on Stock Kawasaki
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Wscherer Congratulations go out to William Scherer of Scotts Valley who rode his production Kawasaki ZX-14 "The Spirit" to a world record top speed of 195.1 MPH at Utah's Bonneville Salt Flats on September 7, 2006. Scherer also set three other American records based on fuel type, exhaust system used and bike modifications (or lack thereof).
Ironically, this former Hollywood actor, Army Ranger and pilot had only been a motorcyclist for five months prior to his record-breaking attempt. Scherer said he had visited Bonneville three years ago to watch the time trials and was immediately hooked. He went out and bought his bike, took the Motorcycle Safety Foundation riding course at Cabrillo College and got his license.
Scherer learned about an isolated stretch of road in Hollister where he could go out and practice without worrying about cross-traffic. As a pilot, his instinct to improve his aerodynamic profile led him to invent a method of cocking his head while riding which reduced his wind resistance. By the time he was hitting 130 mph, he felt he was ready for the Salt Flats. Scherer credits his bike with the four records, "I was just along for the ride" he jokes. He went on to explain that the first four miles of the ten-mile course at Bonneville are used only to get up to speed, miles five and six are timed and the rest is used to decelerate. You then run the course in the opposite direction to ensure the time recorded isn't wind-assisted.
If you happen to spot a motorcycle-shaped blur on Highway 1 headed toward Half Moon Bay, or find yourself seeing things on an otherwise deserted road in Hollister on a Sunday morning-give Bill a thumbs- up and wish him the best in Bonneville next month!
Tired of Cute Stuffed Bears? Get a Dolly!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Cycle Dolly Like most motorcycle riders, one of our biggest issues is negotiating garage space-especially with two or more bikes. Between finding room for the barbecue, the kids' bicycles, the lawn mower and years of miscellaneous household items (never mind the car!) it's a daily struggle finding safe, accessible storage for our restoration project bikes, off-road bikes and weekend rides

Being able to store four bikes sideways in the back of the garage and still have room for the car is an amazing thing! We can move any motorcycle out for service or riding without emptying the garage first and still leave most of the collection safely under cover. Heck, now we might even have room for that new FZ-1 we've been drooling over. Come down to the shop and take one out for a test shove and you'll see why we're so happy to carry this product.

What do custom motorcycles, projectile weapons and luxury yachts all have in common? They all utilize components and finishes that can become damaged or less attractive due to UV exposure and the elements. That's where 303 Aerospace Protectant products come in. This is NOT your father's Armor All. This is seriously high-tech, cutting-edge, industry- endorsed protection for custom paint, vinyl, rubber, latex, leather and fine fabrics. Companies like Viva Vinyl, Trumark Slingshots and Banshee River Boards all use 303 products to enhance, protect and prolong the life of their products..

Initially used almost exclusively for "marine grade" applications, 303 products have gained popularity with custom automotive, snowmobile, RV and motorcycle enthusiasts. 303 Aerospace Protectant has been proven to silence squeaking Harley drive belts and can even extend the life of the rubber. 303 Protectant provides a breathable, flexible UV barrier against oxidation for vinyl, leather, plastic, Plexiglas and aluminum motorcycle components without drawing away the surface chemistry or leaving a "wet" look.

If you're tired of looking through a hazy or UV-fogged windshield, visor or quarter fairing, we can show you how to polish out the damage and protect the repaired surface from future oxidation and scratching. 303 Aerospace Protectant creates such a smooth surface on treated Plexiglas that objects that would normally scratch or gouge the material just slide right off

If you're serious about your investment in your motorcycle, gear and accessories, you owe it to yourself to check out the entire line of 303 cleaning, restoration and protection products.
